The annual Poppy Appeal for the Royal British Legion has begun and continues until Remembrance Day on the 11th November 2020.
Rotary Beckenham has organised the Poppy collection in Beckenham on behalf of the Legion since 2014.
We organize the collection from shops and offices in Beckenham and, for the first time this year, to about another 60 shops and offices in Bromley.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there have been restrictions placed on the traditional ways of fundraising and many are prohibited this year.
This makes 2020 the most difficult year for raising money for the Legion,
This year our activities are curtailed, but we will try and collect as much money as possible.

Update 22nd November 2020
We are winding up our campaign in Beckenham to raise money for the Royal British Legion Annual Poppy Appeal. The last few collection tins are yet to be counted but we believe we will exceed £21,000 this year.
This is about half our total collection in 2019, but considering the restrictions on how we were allowed to collect this time, it is a very good result. Furthermore, it doesn’t include the money donated via card machines, which goes direct to the British Legion. Unlike other years, there have been no collections by volunteers on the street. We have not been able to collect at supermarkets either, normally a large source of donations.
On the plus side, innovative use of card machines, QR codes and text donating has enabled us to reach those who don’t carry much cash these days.
We would like to thank all our supporters and the generous people of Beckenham who have made this result possible in these dark days.
