On her visit to S Wales, RI Director Harriet Verwey and Rotarians were able to make a quick visit to Burry Port RNLI where they were hosted by Station Officer Roger Brown and some of his dedicated volunteers. Llanelli Rotary held a fun filled Bavarian Night last year and, together with some fundraising from a bike ride, have been able to provide a web cam that is positioned on the outside of the building overlooking the sea. Views from the camera can be seen on You Tube allowing people to see the sea and tidal conditions before travelling. We have also provided a large TV screen and floor scrubber to make the life of these volunteers more comfortable.
RI Director Harriette was given a short presentation on the work of the Burry Port RNLI and the importance of the station in the area. They have already had 74 calls for help in the first eight and a half months of the year equalling the the total call outs for 2024. Harriette saw a live demonstration of the camera in action and had a tour of the boat room where Rotarians were able to climb into one of the RIBs.
