The Emergency Medicine Academic Centre, EMAC, is part of the Cardiff University School of Medicine based in the University Hospital of Wales. Dr. Huw Lloyd Williams, an Associate Professor, Clinical and Educational Lead and Emergency Medicine Academic Centre Director came to us several years ago when his vision was to create an Emergency Medicine degree course for students.
The only space he was offered within the hospital was a storage room under the Helipad which required lots of work to bring it to any standard. The Rotary Clubs donated funds which allowed Dr. Huw to lay a proper floor in the building and purchase small pieces of equipment. He succeeded in having four students obtain their degree in emergency medicine.
Dr. Huw now has a more prominent area of the hospital to continue his training and with the support of his team 90 students achieved their degree last year. The impact of this initial donation is that students not just across Wales are receiving state of the art training in emergency medicine but also in countries in other parts of the world. Cardiff Breakfast Rotary continue to support this project.
