Doctor Bank - About Us
In the UK there is one doctor for every three hundred and fifty people, in rural Uganda there is one doctor for between ten thousand and twenty thousand people. Many people have no access to any form of healthcare and over half the women deliver their babies without any medical assistance or pain relief and without any pre-natal care.
The Rotary Doctor Bank of Great Britain and Ireland provides funding for volunteer healthcare workers to travel to developing countries to treat patients and to provide teaching to doctors, nurses and midwives. Most of our work is in Uganda in East Africa, but we have also supported assignments in Zambia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Ghana, Liberia, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Burma, the Philippines, Nepal and Kiribati (formally the Ellice Islands).
