When Patrick Donaldson suggested the idea of a Beetle Drive with the combined forces of our club and Bexhill Lions, there were mixed responses. What is a Beetle Drive? Why would anyone want to come? Are we trying to raise any funds?
No said Patrick its just a way of joining together in a social context and having fun. So the decision was made to fix a date and make a plan for this to happen. The enthusiastic response from the Lions was affirmation that we were on the right track.
So on Friday night a hearty band of 36 joined together to face the challenge of luck and drawing and completing our Beetles with the luck of the dice. Patrick and wife Amanda had organised nine tables equipped with dice, pens an Beetle sheets with twelve rounds to complete before the evening was out.
James Slinn was our Master of Ceremonies and Patrick & Amanda were adjudicating the competition.
Half time we broke for a delightful supper served up by the Cooden Beach Golf Club staff followed by tea/coffee. This gave us plenty of time to chat and share fellowship.
The Beetle Drive was finished by 9:30 and the winner of the individual competition Lion Meryl and the Team Competition Bexhill Lions were announced. Although we were trounced by the Lions our noble President David handed over the Companion Cups and congratulated the winners.
Lions President Sue thanked Rotary for the evening and promised to set out a new challenge next year to give Rotary the opportunity to regain the honours.
