Everest Cup 16th August 2022

Tue, Aug 16th 2022 at 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

A partner's evening followed the Annual Everest Cup Golf match with Crickhowell Rotary Club. After the presentation of the Golf Trophy and prizes, Abergavenny Rotarian David Tod, who is a keen sailor, entertained us with a knot tying competition.

Members of the Abergavenny Rotary Club played members from Crickhowell Rotary Club in the annual Everest Cup Golf match at the Monmouthshire Golf Club on the afternoon of Tuesday 16th August 2022. The two Rotary Clubs have competed for the Everest Cup every year since 2015 and the score is now 3 victories each. (2 years lost to the Covid Pandemic). This will make 2023 a very exciting match - although it should be said that the social friendship and witty banter is more important than the standard of golf during this fun filled event.

The winners of the various categories of the match were announced and presented with their prizes by Abergavenny Captain Vernon Heritage at a dinner in the Golf Club after the match with members of both teams present and other members and partners of Abergavenny Rotary Club. Crickhowell Rotary was the overall winner and Crickhowell Captain Anstie Blackham is seen being presented with the Everest Cup by Vernon Heritage.

The category winners also photo'd were:-

Tim Reardon Smith (Aber) - Nearest the pin

David Tod (Aber) - Longest Drive

Vernon Heritage - Highest score in the Abergavenny Rotary Team

Keith Miles - Highest score in the Crickhowell Team (no photo)

Dennis Hardwick (Crick) - Best Back Nine

Anstie Blackham - Captain of the Crickhowell Team - winners of the Everest Cup 2022.

After the Golfing Prizes and Cup presentations, Abergavenny Rotarian David Tod, who is a keen sailor entertained us with the knot tying competition, between teams from the three tables. The final play off was between retired Naval Officer and Club Treasurer Geoff Ball, and Partner Roger Atkins, a retired sailor, with Roger tying his knot in double quick time. Congratulations go to Roger for winning the competition.
