Rebecca Porteous tells Rotary about plans to visit Thailand, while Caitlin Wishart and Anthony Birrell share experiences of RYLA (Rotary Young Leadership Awards)

Young and adventurous

Three young people told how Dunbar Rotary is helping them. Caitlin Wishart and Anthony Birrell thanked Rotary for sponsoring them on the Rotary Youth Leadership Award week in July this year – five days of team-building exercises and experiencing new challenges – at an outdoor centre near Kirkcudbright – including raft-building, mountain-biking, and an assault course. President Elaine O’Brien presented them with their awards. Youth Services chairman Robin Hamilton said “The Rotary Club of Dunbar was delighted to support two pupils from Dunbar Grammar on the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) experience. We are sure this experience will benefit both of then for their future life." Rebecca Porteous is raising funds to pay her way to volunteering in a primary school in Thailand in 2023 – there she will teach English, some maths and some practical lessons. Rebecca was presented with a cheque for £250 to help towards her costs. The Thailand placement is organised by Project Trust charity.
