Within a few days of the flood the Rotary Monmouth Flood appeal was launched and received a fantastic response from Rotarians around the country. - £10822 has been collected and is available for donation to community facilities as the need is identified.
The Club also agreed to donate the surplus (£3700) from the Nov 5th Bonfire to the Mayors Flood Appeal Fund and agreed that money from Christmas collections would also be donated - Over Christmas £4025 was collected with "Santa's Sleigh" for a total donation of £7725 to the Mayors Fund
As a result of our appeal to the wider Rotary family the Rotary GBI Disaster Response Fund (DRF) suggested they may be able to assist. A preliminary application with the Monmouth Sports Association (MSA) was approved by the DRF on January 15th. This was followed by a detailed application for £35965, as part of total losses of nearly £54000, submitted to the DRF on Feb 12th, was approved and funds received within 2 weeks.
A meeting with the MSA on March 3rd led to the first payment to the Tennis club on March 6th.
The grant means that the MSA will be able to buy and fit out replacement storage containers for the various clubs in the Association as well as enable the clubs to replace vital equipment and enable sports to continue to play an active role in the life of the town.
