An inter-schools competition organised by the Rotary club was held on 6th April at Marsh Farm Hotel.

Rotary Junior Quiz 2017

On 6th April seven local primary schools entered teams in the annual quiz organised by Royal Wootton Bassett and District Rotary Club at Marsh Farm Hotel.

Teams of three from Ashton Keynes, Broad Hinton, Broad Town, Longleaze, Noremarsh, St Bartholomew's and St Mary's schools faced 10 rounds of questions on different subjects including a picture round and a music round. Each team also had to decide which round to play their Joker which doubled their score on that round.

It was a close-fought contest, with several teams still in with a chance of winning going into the final stages. At the end of the 10 rounds two teams - Broad Hinton and St Mary's - were tied in first place on 88 points before St Mary's Primary School finally emerged victorious after a tie-breaker question.

Frank Morton (Rotary President) thanked the audience for supporting the event and congratulated all the teams on the high standard of their answers, before presenting the St Mary’s team of Max Woods, Nalani Hunt and Archie Summerfield with £20 book tokens and the Rotary trophy. Broad Hinton's Sarah Hafner, Adam Bruce and Phoebe Harwood-McIntosh received £10 book tokens as runners up. He also presented St Mary's lead teacher Dianne Palmer with book tokens for the winning school.

The contestants appreciated the modified quiz format and participated enthusiastically throughout. Teachers, parents and Rotarians present all enjoyed the evening and are looking forward to next year’s quiz when we hope to encourage further schools to enter.
