The Finds

It was amazing to see the timescale over which people have lost small possessions - and coins in particular. The coins found included:

  • a Queen Elizabeth I shilling
  • several groats and half-groats
  • a couple of George III 'Bullhead' sixpences
  • a Cartwheel Penny (1797)
  • a Charles I groat.

Other finds included Roman brooches, parts of Anglo Saxon clasps and several crotal bells (also known as rumble bells which were tied round the necks of farm animals).
