Mandy Hancock and Cliff Puffett joined us for lunch and gave a very interesting and thought-provoking presentation about the activities of the Swindon Down's Syndrome Group (SDSG).
One of the most important activities is to raise money to fund speech and language groups which all children who are members of the SDSG are eligible to attend.
The aim of the language groups is to give the children an opportunity to practice their speech and language skills in a structured and fun situation. Most groups run every week in term time to practice skills such as understanding, sentence building, sound recognition and production, listening skills, attention and memory skills and conversational/interaction skills.
A specialist speech and language therapist runs several small groups for children of all ages . Parents attend so that they can see the kind of help they can give their children at home.
There is a website full of helpful information at http://www.swindondownsgroup.org.uk/.
