International Service Projects

International Service encompasses efforts to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the world, and to promote world understanding and peace.

It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.

This is a resume of the work undertaken by the Foundation/International Committee for 2015/16.

The Monmouth Raft Race, in which we participate on an annual basis, was again a financial success with the generous support of sponsorship for the Stonehouse Rotary Raft.  The proceeds were divided between Foundation (Rotary’s own charity) and End Polio Now.

Nanyuki Children’s Home in Kenya was the recipient of £1500 - £750 from our own resources and £750 from a District Grant: this was used specifically for their Solar Project.  Nanyuki will also benefit from our donations of tools, toiletries hygiene goods and toys donated by Club Members for a shipment of goods being dispatched during summer 2016.

Money for Foundation was again raised on several occasions (averaging £200 for a day’s work) from the Saturday operation of a local NHS Car Park; this takes place when the NHS staff are not working and therefore have no requirement for the car parking space.

Our involvement with the initiative Lend With Care www.lendwithcare.org the microfinance arm of Care International has been an outstanding success.  Our Club have been pleased to sponsor several entrepreneurs who have without fail commenced repaying their loans thus releasing money for further investment.

We have been pleased to support other local Clubs with their International work – Stroud with Specs for Sri Lanka and Nailsworth with their appeal for Ring Pulls to assist the Philippines Community Fund.
