For several years past, Stonehouse Rotary has given support to the needs of the Children's Home through linking with The Nanyuki Children's Home Charitable Trust.
A little over two years ago, the Club committed to funding the supply, and installation of, a Polytunnel horticultural unit with micro irrigation facility.
This, as part of a larger programme for a minimum of five units to enable the Home to become self sufficient in horticultural produce with the added bonus of selling any surplus on the open market, thereby generating income for the Home.
Sponsored with a Rotary District Subsidised Grant, it is pleasing to now record the completion of the 'Stonehouse' element of the overall project, which, it is believed, now comprises three units.
Photographs below illustrate the arrival on site of contractors and equipment, clearing the ground; formal presentation to the Home, and the plaque confirming our support.final result.
It will be noted that there are two units shown above of the completed unit - on the left is the 'Stonehouse' supplied and the right hand unit having been funded by the Trust.
Through the Trust, the Stonehouse Rotary Club have committed to the continuing support for the Home.
June 2011 Nanyuki Visit
Bill and Carolyn Kirk (Chairman and Secretary) have now returned from their most successful visit to the home. We had arranged, before the visit, to have two "Poly Tunnels" erected in the Shamba and were sceptical about the work actually going ahead on time, no need to worry, they turned up spot on time and with the correct items!! We were fortunate to have the company of the local M.P's assistant, The Chief (assistant to the District Commissioner) and several members of the local committee to witness the hand over of the tunnels to the home. We are most grateful to the Rotary Club of Stonehouse for their contribution to purchase one of the tunnels and a plaque recognising their donation was fitted to one on the units.
