Senior Citizen's Lunch hosted by Maidenhill School

Year 10 at Maidenhill School were challenged by Stonehouse Rotary Club to design, prepare and serve a meal suitable for a party of local senior citizens. This task would allow them to gain a number of credits towards their personal academic qualifications in Hospitality & Catering.  

Rotary invited  24 senior citizens to the meal on  8^th July. The young caterers excelled serving a beautifully executed balanced meal a selection of two mains and two desert courses, along with their own-prepared varied bread rolls.  

On arrival, the guests were welcomed by the students, and served canapes, whilst  pupils from years 10 and 11 provided piano music.  The photo above shows Elisha Glowacki and MacAulay Foster serving the canapes.

During the course of the meal, other students from years 10 and 11 entertained their guests with singing, guitar music and ukelele.

Their teacher Miss Kath Fry said, "This has been a great opportunity for the pupils to practice their skills in a real life situation whilst showcasing the school to a group of residents the school doesn't often have a chance to interact with."  

The general view from the senior citizen guests was that the youngsters were just brilliant and their food would rival many a local restaurant. 

We would specifically like to thank all of the students involved in the event; and to thank Kath Fry and Davina  Ball, and their helpers Louise and John, and the support from Headteacher Gary Watson and Deputy Head Pam Wilson who was able to join the guests for lunch.
