The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool held a reception to celebrate recent successes and particularly the installation of a new track hoist system.
It was an opportunity for the organisations which support the Pool with grants and donations to meet the staff and Committee members and some of the people who use the Pool. During the past 5 years, the Pool has done particularly well in overcoming many difficulties, particularly those caused by Covid and the huge increase in energy costs.
Joining the Mayor of Swindon, Cllr Fay Howard, at the reception on 16th October 2025 were representatives from the Wiltshire and Swindon Community Foundation, the Zürich Community Trust, Catalent, and three of our members representing us, the Rotary Club of Swindon North and Thamesdown. On her Facebook page, Cllr Fay Howard, Mayor of Swindon, wrote: “What a privilege it was to be at the Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool today to celebrate the completion of their fantastic refurbishment! This pool, originally opened in 1979 by Joel Joffe, is the largest of its type in the Southwest and a true treasure for Swindon."
"The new improvements are incredible and include a fantastic new tracking hoist system, a re-felted roof with solar panels, and a new chair lift. Watching users being lowered into the water, you could sense the immediate relaxation and joy on their faces, it truly showed how much this pool is valued."
"This amazing place is committed to fundraising, even selling food items grown in their allotment and bric-a-brac to support their work. Many thanks to Chairperson Dave Berry and Pool Manager Neil for the invitation. I was delighted to cut the ribbon and declare the refurbished pool officially open!”
