The Swindon Songbirds - a dedicated group of 19 ladies who have a mutual love of singing.

The choir's Music Director is Lucy Smith.  A Primary School teacher by day and frustrated musician by night, Lucy says: "In September 2018 I was given the wonderful opportunity to combine the two when I took over as Musical Director of the Songbirds and I haven't looked back since. We laugh together, cry together, travel around the country together, but most of all we love to sing together and we try to bring a little bit of Songbirds love to every performance we do."

THE CHRISTMAS FAIR
A Poem written and read at the meeting by Linda Goodearl

Are you going to the Christmas fair in the village hall next week?
It’s usually quite a good affair I think I’ll take a peak,
There’s lots of lovely craft stalls selling homemade gifts galore
They only charge you 50 pence to go in through the door.

Last year Mr Dodds dressed up to take your entrance fee
He was supposed to be a pixie but he looked more like a tree!
Mrs Moody was a fairy with a wand that flashed all night
What a shame the diet hadn’t worked – the tutu looked a fright!

The cake stall was a hit with all – mince pies went down a treat,
Little Jimmy ate so many that he couldn’t see his feet,
And the mulled wine really hit the spot – did you see Aunt Ethel’s face –
By the time she’d had the third glass you could have fired her into space.

Father Christmas had a grotto and the kids lined up with glee
To tell him what they wanted as they sat upon his knee.
It was really just the vicar with a cushion up his gown,
The beard of course was false as well but the red nose was his own.

Farmer Jones was selling holly and his wife some mistletoe,
She was holding one piece up quite high to sell a kiss or two.
The chaps all lined up quickly and the queue became quite long
But they forgot she owned a pig farm and oh – the pong was strong!

The Christmas tree was lovely with some pretty dingle dangles,
It’s a pity someone didn’t think – and lit the little candles;
The fire was soon put out though and the smoke quite quickly cleared
What a pity that the vicar stood too close and singed his beard!

So I’m definitely going – what could possibly go wrong,
They’ve even got a choir there to sing a Christmas song;
I’ll have a glass of mulled wine to get me in the mood
And I won’t reject a third mince pie ‘cos that would be quite rude.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
