Club members Steve Davison and David Dukes, together with their wives, travelled from Swindon to Munich on a Rotary Twinning visit to the Rotary Club of Ingolstadt-Kreuztor on 23rd May 2023. They were met at the airport by representatives from the Rotary Club of Ingolstadt-Kreuztor and taken to their hotel Altstadt in Central Ingolstadt.
Ingolstadt is a city on the Danube in Upper Bavaria, about 85 kms north of Munich. The Kreuztor, a gate, was built in 1385 and is the landmark of the city. Its name comes from the former leper house to the Holy Cross located to the west of the city which was destroyed in 1546 in the Schmalkaldic War. The seven-towered Cross Gate is part of the second Ingolstadt city wall, built in 1363. It is the only one of the original four main gates that is still preserved.
