In an effort to give our German visitors a flavour of our local Countryside, we began by taking them to Avebury. Our guide was Barbara Hornsby who gave a very interesting talk about the history of the stones. (Photo #1).
On the walk back to the car in the sunshine our visitors noticed a village cricket match being played. Of course, they found that extremely interesting. (Photo #2).

We visited Burford and had a guided tour from Wendy Dukes who took us around the oldest part of the town which is hidden from the main street. We stopped for coffee in an old English pub which they were delighted with (Photo #3).
Following that we made our way to The Cotswold Merrymouth Inn, half-way between Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold, for a traditional Sunday Lunch hosted by Andy Joyce (Photo #4). Again, it was a first for most of them and they were very impressed (Photo #5 at the bar).

A visit to the model village in Bourton on the Water followed by a traditional cream tea in a pub. That was very well received.
They all came to the partners meeting on Monday evening and met our guest speaker, Drewe Lacey, District 1100 Governor Elect.
Drewe spoke about the work he's doing in District this year and also informed us of his plans when he becomes District Governor in July.
Next it was the turn of our German Rotarian friends to tell us about their Rotary project in Kenya.
In a presentation from Uwe Hartman and Mikal Starke we learnt about their Club's project to build a school and provide education for children between the ages of 5 and 15 in Akunda, north of Niarobi They explained how it was progressing and what remains to be done to complete the project. There were no decisions to be made about the way forward but they wanted to make us aware of this project and see if there was any way we could help.

Tired but very happy after their few days with us, we took them to Heathrow Airport.
