CLOSE TO CHRISTMAS.
A poem written and read at the meeting by Linda Goodearl
It’s getting close to Christmas but I’m not going to panic
I’m going to be organised so things don’t get too manic,
The cake is made – well nearly – I just need to get some flour..
And butter, fruit and sugar, well I don’t want it to be sour.
And then I’ll have to make the pud so I need to get some brandy
And sherry, suet and some stout, with some left over for a shandy.
The tree won’t be a problem it’s an artificial one
Just need to put it all together, I soon should have it done.
Well I thought it would be easy, I think I’ve lost a screw or two
It looks a bit lop-sided, perhaps some sellotape will do.
Never mind, no-one will notice once I put the lights around
And if I tie the fairy on the top she won’t fall down to the ground.
Next job to write the Christmas cards, well they won’t be a problem
Cos I bought them nice an early, must just remember where I put them.
I know they’re in a safe place, somewhere that I won’t forget
I’ve just got to go on looking but I haven’t found them….yet.
Oh well a few more jobs to do and then I will be ready
I can get the gin and tonic out though I’ll have to take it steady,
If I have more than one or three there’s no telling what might happen
The cake might end up in the post and the cards cooked in the oven!
So have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year too.
For next year might be lucky and I’ll find that card for you!.
