West Fife schools take two of the top three places at Fife schools quiz contest
West Fife primary schools have taken two of the top three places in a closely fought Rotary quiz competition among schools from across southern and western Fife.
One of them, Crossford PS, will go on to Rotary’s North Scotland District grand final in Aberdeen in June after finishing second, edging ahead of third-placed Dunfermline’s Masterton PS by just one point: Crossford scored 93 out of a possible 120 points, and Masterton scored 92.
The event was won by Kinghorn PS with 95, and they will also contest the Aberdeen final.
Crossford PS's quiz team is sponsored by West Fife Rotary Club, whose Youth Convenor Robert North said:-
“Naturally, we’re enormously proud of the talented youngsters from Crossford Primary School, and we’re sure they’ll give a good account of themselves at the final in Aberdeen.
“Nurturing young talent and supporting education are important strands of Rotary’s work, so it was heart-warming to see the knowledge and skills on display among all 11 teams at the area final.“
Contestants were drawn from P7 and P6 classes, and the Crossford team comprised Sam, Hannah, Harris, Isla and reserve, Blaire.
The Masterton team comprised Iona, Ajitesh, Rory, Evan and Logan.
Pam Turner, primary schools quiz co-ordinator for Carnegie Rotary Club, which sponsors Masterton school, said,
“We in Rotary give huge thanks to all the schools’ staff and the families and friends for their work and support that made this such a successful and enjoyable event.”
Quiz topics included technology, the human body, geography, mathematics, science, art, the written word, general knowledge, sport and picture recognition. The area final was hosted by Leven Rotary Club, and held at Levenmouth Academy on Monday 20th April 2026.
The primary schools quiz is one of a range of competitions organised by Rotary clubs in Scotland to nurture young talent. Others include photography, writing, art, technology and music competitions.
