Guests at this week’s meeting were June, Gill, Joan, Shelia with dogs Lexy and Logan from Therapet.
The charity Therapet is part of Canine Concern Scotland Trust, established in 1988. Therapy and pets. Volunteers take their dogs to people deprived of a pet in care homes and schools. Sometimes cats, even rabbits but all must be able to walk on a lead. Born out of the observation that dogs point of interest, create smiles and comfort, pleasure to other people.
Therapets are family pets whereas therapy dogs are specially trained.
Therapets are taken into support groups for every kind of need. Surveys have discovered that the presence of a dog during recuperation reduces pain by 15%. The Salvation Army use dogs to break down the barriers when trying to help people on the street.
The Trust promotes the roles of dogs in all sorts of walks of life. Qualities include lowering blood pressure. Therapets in Fife have visited children at Inverkeithing High School, in many primary schools, students in colleges, care in the community houses and units covered by the charity Fife Young Carers.
