Guest speaker at this week’s meeting was Mandy Raine and her colleague Janey.
For the last 15 years Mandy has been a Tesco Community Champion. Her job is part time and Mandy works only two days per week. When she started it was a new role supporting with prizes for raffles and tombolas. Going out to schools, day care centre, nurseries, old folks homes. Operates the dump bin for Foodbank, throughout the year and one for The Pantry at Touch.
Surplus food that cannot be sold - nearing sell by date. Charities come in seven days a week to use for community.
Stronger Starts, previously Community Grants. Pick up a blue token and vote. Golden grant award plant a gold token in store and that recently went to Abbeyview Kids Club.
Visits from high schools highlight that there are lots of jobs within Tesco other than just checkout jobs.
Mandy stressed not to be shy and request support regularly but with as much notice as possible.
Janey told her story how she started stacking shelves but is now Night Shift manager. Initially thought it was going to be for two years but that was 17 and a half years ago. Now in charge of 36 adult staff, checking their well-being while meeting targets. She thoroughly recommended working for Tesco.
Vote of thanks was given by PP Donald Mackay.
