We were visited by Craig Sommerville and his deputy Bob Mercer. Craig and Bob are local volunteers for the Fife Coast watch. We were informed by a good PowerPoint presentation which described in detail, the work of the Fife Coast watch. We were given an understanding of where the Coast watch fitted in to Coastal safety and the relationship with coastal safety, and in particular the RNLI and other emergency services. The Club’s VOT was given by Alistair Durkie
Based at Silver Sands Aberdour, Coastwatch was formed as a volunteer coastal safety & monitoring organisation. Their concerns are for the ever expanding number of sea and coastal users and the welfare of marine wildlife along our shores.
Volunteers are trained as observers to Spot, Plot, Report & Update activity on the sea and along the coastline. Where any potential incident or safety issue is spotted they record the exact location and report accurate information to the appropriate agency, primarily HM Coastguard.
