Sailors Society - Leith & Forth

Tue, Jan 17th 2023 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Guest speaker is Pauline Robertson, Port Chaplain-

Members enjoyed another excellent Speaker organised by Mark. Pauline Robertson, Sailors' Society Port Chaplain Scotland, Leith and Forth. Pauline gave us an incite into how the International Seafarers' Support Charity works with Merchant seafarers on board a huge variety of ships. Her daily work could involve Friendship, Hospitality, Pastoral Care and Practical help.

She was able to work through Covid, supporting the many who were confined to port for many months, some even abandoned by their shipping companies. In some cases ensuring there was food aboard, even shopping for supplies, from basics to treats. Grace gave the vote of thanks.

Neil drew the January Prize draw numbers - 1st Alan Farquharson, 2nd Robin Grant.

Robert North reported that so far the Youth entries from the 3 Dunfermline clubs were the only ones yet received by District. Competition District 1010 Final takes place on Saturday 4th February in Loch Leven Campus at Kinross. RWCF candidate is trombonist Robbie Dowall and if anyone wishes to attend and support the event then there's no ticket required and your attendance would be welcome.

Aileen received £30 donation from Ladies Probus which together with another £20 donations from talks means she will send the Treasurer £50 towards the Eradication of Polio.

Neil reported that West Fife Rotary will sponsor 2 categories at the Fife Festival of Music on Wednesday 1st February.  Aileen will attend morning session in the Vine Church, Neil will attend the evening event in Kirkcaldy and if others wish to attend please let Neil know. Once again we are supporting Community and Youth.

The Salvation Army thanked the club for their generous contribution to their Christmas Toy Appeal and the donation towards Fuel cards.
