On Tuesday 11th January members joined a District Drop In Zoom meeting with 100 others to listen to Rotary International President Nominee, Gordon McInally. Gordon was born in Edinburgh in 1957 and joined the Rotary Club of South Queensferry in 1984, was Club President in 1991-92 and served as District Governor for District 1020 in 1997-98.
His vision for Rotary is to grow, change, innovate, transform and improve to better serve the needs of those who deserve support and help.
Gordon suggested that the pandemic has created changes but if things might not be the same again that might be a good thing. Positives would include to take stock and to re-evaluate Rotary. Build back better is one of the commonest emerging phrases but Gordon would rather build ‘forward’ better into what people call the new normal. We all need to seize the opportunity to take Rotary forward.
Rotary possibly spends too much time talking about how we might achieve things. GM thinks it is more important to address the ‘why’. To make the world a better place, to help people live a better life. Make a difference to make a more peaceful, caring, loving world than we have now.
Theme re-iterated - Build forward better.
