Entertainment Report to AGM 2021

It will be some time before numbers permitted to congregate inside will allow a ‘regular’ club meeting, but outdoor activities such as golf, another group walk, bowling, ‘on-the-move-quiz’, and perhaps even a summer barbecue

Entertainment, Fellowship & Sport Report

Members will need no reminding that along with many aspects of our lives, our club’s entertainment. fellowship and sport activities have been greatly curtailed these past twelvemonths due to the measures imposed by the COVID pandemic.

Fortunately, the easy availability of ZOOM video conferencing has afforded the club the possibility of regular ‘virtual fellowship’ via online club meetings. These are by no means ideal, but are far better than no meetings, and although a few members choose not to avail themselves of this facility, the vast majority have regularly participated in these online gatherings, ensuring that the club’s activities have continued throughout these difficult times.

A positive to come out of our on-line existence is that speakers are no longer limited by geography; the ability to have people from all corners of the globe talking to the club has provided some very interesting and entertaining presentations; definitely a practise to continue forward into the ‘new normal’. As to our own entertainment, we did have several carloads competing in the club’s ‘Automotive Quizorienteering’ last October 4th, traversing the highways and byways of Fife, and we managed a lively interactive ‘Festive Zoom’ on December 15th with suitably libated participants quizzing, chatting, and enjoying Torryburn-based dup ‘Mix Tape’.

Aside from the club team’s brief foray into the on-line version of the annual Rotary Gavel Competition, to date this year club sport has been limited to golf, in the form of the Ken Forbes Quaich (final between George Primrose and Dave Riddell to be played before the end of June) ably arranged by Ian Grieve, who will look to arrange another fun golf day for members, partners and friends in the coming weeks.

On a further positive note, we had a full compliment of the regulatory number of participants for a circumnavigation of Lochore Meadows on May 9th, organised by Tom Pettigrew; such a welcome break from our cocooned existence that even the sporadic downpours could not dampen the enthusiasm of the Rotary Ramblers (or should that be Rabble).

Going forward, even if all goes to plan, it will be some time before numbers permitted to congregate inside will allow a ‘regular’ club meeting, but outdoor activities such as the aforementioned golf, another group walk, bowling, ‘on-the-move-quiz’, and perhaps even a summer barbeque should hopefully be possible in the next few months. Watch this Space!
