Guest speaker on Zoom was Valerie Parkinson

Our zoom meeting was well attended including rotarians from South Sarasota, Florida Dan and Hilda.

Our guest speaker from Wiltshire, Valerie Parkinson took us on an enthralling adventure to Ladakh once part of Western Tibet. Ladakh was independent until early 1835 when taken over by India. Now a union territory within a India, bordered by Pakistan, Kashmir, Tibet and China. It is a one hour flight from Delhli across the Indian Himalayas. The barren mountains spectacular and difficult place to fly into

Ladakh means 'The land of High Passes' some over 5000m

Trekking in Ladakh tends to take place in the months of June, July and August.

Valerie related stories of her experience of viewing copper working, an Amazon delivery at such height (Coffee apparently), Box bridge and 'easy' summits at 6100m

Valerie illustrated her talk with wonderful photos of breathtaking scenery, Blue sheep (goats!), Snow leopards, the highest ever piano concert.

Valerie is truly an expert on Ladakh Trekking, Wildlife, Cycling and it was a privilige to have her address the club. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Past President Brian.
