Year 2010-11

President Greig Hill's year.

This year's incoming President of the Rotary club of West Fife is Greig W.W.Hill.

Greig is very much a local man, having lived, been educated and worked in Dunfermline virtually all his life.

Born in Dunfermline, Greig grew up in Crossford, where the Rotary Club of West Fife met since its inception in 1979 until last October when it moved to the Queensferry Hotel, where it now meets every Tuesday evening.

He attended Crossford and Cairneyhill Primary, Queen Anne High School, then Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, gaining a BSc (Hons) in Building Economics and Quantity Surveying. On completion of his studies he returned to Dunfermline and took up a post as a Quantity Surveyor with the local firm of Wilkinson & Lowe, qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor whilst there before moving on to Dunfermline District Council, and subsequently to Fife Council upon reorganisation.

In addition to a surveyor and Rotarian, Greig is also a singer, often alongside his partner Anne Diack in their group Strictly Songtime, (currently rehearsing for next month's Edinburgh Festival Fringe), and has previously staged fund-raising concerts for Rotary Charities.

In his year of office, Greig hopes to make some headway in addressing the Rotary movement's image problem in this country, and raise the West Fife club's profile in the community. Rotary is the biggest service organisation in the world, yet the majority of people have no idea what Rotary does, and many people still perceive it to be a secretive, male only club.

Rotary is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, colour, creed, gender, or political preference. There are more than 32,000 clubs and over 1.2 million members worldwide. Abroad, less than 40% of Rotary International is over 60 years of age, whereas Rotarians in Britain and Ireland number only 30% under 60.

So although we value good Rotarians of all ages, looking to the future we are keen to introduce young, like-minded people to our organisation, in the hope that they will see the Rotary movement as worthwhile, relevant and something they want to add to. In giving something to Rotary, helping it prosper and grow for the future, new members will get something back; by way of social life, business development, fun, camaraderie and the rewards of helping communities locally and internationally.

"With more members, more caring hearts and more willing hands. Rotarians can make a difference and show that service to humanity is the best work of life."
