Ruth McCabe was guest speaker from The Dementia Friendly Fife project which is one year old, and Health and Social Care Partnership funded. It was a very enlightening and informative talk.
Although only affects one percent of the population, people live in fear of dementia but project aims to:-
Raise awareness, reducing stigma and be more understanding.
Encourage early diagnosis will possibly lead to longer life.
Training
15 minute online programme run by Alzheimer’s Scotland
1 hour face to face has much more depth to it.
To date 250+ organisations have the award, usually recognised by badges on business windows. There are now 6000 friends in the Kingdom, trebled in the last year.
Nationwide Building Society is a leading the uptake. Kingdom Housing and Masonic Lodges have also taken up training.
Trying to engage with Fife Council, leisure centres and Stagecoach.
Ask members to take the 15 minute programme since aim to have 10000 Dementia Friends by October 2020. Friends can help sufferers struggle with word finding and wayfinding.
