With the uncertainty of the weather and road conditions it was decided to postpone Ken Fotheringham's presentation on Jedburgh. Ian Harper stepped in to give a very interesting talk on nuclear power generation.
Ian explained that 25% of Scotland's power was nuclear (30% from coal, 15% water, 10% gas and 18% gas). He claimed that the short sightedness of politicians could leave Scotland with a serious problem in the future. "I predict that in five years time we will start seeing disruption to your home and business supplies."
Ian said within ten years between 50% and 60% of Scotland's power will disappear. He was asked about the safety of nuclear waste anbd replied that high level waste has been here now for 50 years. Controlling that was not an engineering but a politican problem.
