President for Rotary Year 1984-85 was Brian Merrett. Brian was a founder member of the club and in his year in the chair he lived in Limekilns with his wife, Janet. The couple had four children, two of which were married. Brian was based in Edinburgh as the Scottish Manager of the National and Provincial Building Society.
One of the Club's major fund raisers was the Beer Festival in the Glen Pavilion. The 1984 festival was the Club's second of what became an annual event. 450 revellers attended and the funds raised for the RSSPCC was no small beer -
