It was with great pleasure that our club President, Ian Hodgson, in the presence of our District Governor, Drewe Lacey, inducted two new members at our business meeting on 3rd March. They were John Giles and Stuart Bryant, Chairman Director of Bryant Associates Wealth Management and first ever club corporate member.
On 27th February, club member Andy Kybert participated in a charity firewalk event at Bristol Cathedral with over 40 others walking barefoot across embers. Andy raised over £500 for the Bristol based One25 charity that provides a wonderful support service to marginalised women. Four of us made a recent visit to the One25 offices to witness the excellent facilities and services available to over 200 women living in vulnerable circumstances.
The fifth and final tea dance of the season was held on 26th February at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall with over 80 guests present for an afternoon of dancing and musical entertainment. Over £360 was generously given in donations contributing to nearly £1500 in donations over the five events, all of which will go to deserving dementia related causes. Our thanks to the members of Chipping Sodbury Inner Wheel Club, staff from the local branch of the Alzheimer’s Society, town hall staff and trustees of the Town Lands Charity and to Sharon and Belinda for providing the musical entertainment.
Following a very informative presentation from representatives of an organisation called Community Action Trust which provides mobility aids (in conjunction with PhysioNet), food and support to elderly and disabled in deprived areas of Zimbabwe the club made a financial donation to support their work.
Entries remain open as does the need for sponsorship for the eighteen holes for our annual Charity Golf Day to be held on 23rd May at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club. For further information contact Ian Joseph at bigjos1953@gmail.com.
Club members joined other Rotary club members at the PhysioNet warehouse on 26th February to load a container with surplus medical equipment destined for North Macedonia. Additional work continues on a regular basis to prepare equipment for future shipments to countries in need.
Club members also joined the Upper Frome Friends Group at the beginning of March to clear litter and rubbish from the Stover Bridge area of Yate.
Finally, we held a very enjoyable social skittles evening at Horton Village Hall on 12th March and raised over £100 from the raffle which will go to a deserving cause.
