Meeting Notes for 20th April 2026

                                   MEETING NOTES FOR MONDAY 20th APRIL, 2026

WELCOME

President David Heale welcomed everyone to the meeting. There were 25 members in

attendance. Guests for the evening were Peter Quinnell, Sue Hughes, Tom Ellis and Ellie Birch. Our

speakers were Jack and Kate Peake who gave a presentation on the A417. Speaker Host

for the evening was Clive O’Gorman who gave an amusing Thought for the Day.

DISTRICT 1100 CONFERENCE

DG Anne Bartholomew thanked members for their help at the Conference.

ALL ABOUT OPERA

President David reminded members about the Opera evening that was being held at St. Phillip &

St. James Church (Pip & Jim’s) on Friday 29th May. He asked members to circulate the leaflet that

has been sent to them by email. As detailed before, Opera singers Kate Bennett, Michael Ferris and Cathy Keating would be performing An Evening of Favourite Arias from popular operas.

Tickets at £20 each including a drink are available online or from Gill. The evening is in aid of

The Rotary Club of Cheltenham North Trust Fund.

SPORTS

Members were advised about Skittles and a Football Quiz, neither of which raised interest from

members.

LADIES WHO LUNCH

Rosanne Cole reported that a successful lunch had taken place. £340 was raised from a raffle and

donations for Shelterbox. A very nice ‘thank you’ has already been received from their Rotary Engagement Team. Many thanks to the ladies who produced the delicious soup and cakes.

Tea at Home Farm Tredington. Paddy Grimshaw has very kindly agreed to host a Tea and Cake

afternoon at Home Farm. This will take place on Wednesday 5th August. Further details to follow

nearer the time.

SPECTACLES

Rosanne advised the meeting that Rotarian Roy Sanders of the Rotary Club of Wotton Bassett &

District is collecting unwanted spectacles (not cases) for distribution to schools and hospitals in South Africa.

Please let Rosanne have any that you no longer need. Roy Sanders will arrange collection.

NEXT MEETING

This will take place on Monday 27th April at The Queens Hotel when our speaker will be our

very own John Phillip who will be talking about America the Beautiful.
