Hi everyone,

Just a few meanderings if I may as October is in the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.

I hope you all enjoyed the last meeting and the crew from the Cheltenham Swimming and Water Polo Club. It was lovely to listen to the enthusiastic John and the father and son combo of Simon and Alfie.

Moving on I think our next meeting on the 6th October deserves a “plug” primarily as we have an excellent Speaker, Martin Jones of Moog, who has given me a synopsis of his talk which I would like to share with you. I would like to attract as many members as possible to this meeting.

His talk will cover:

1. Moog’s Tewkesbury connection and how a US Aerospace company ended up in the Cotswolds.

2. His connection and interest in car racing

3. A history of how the tech in Formula 1 “Gismos” he produces has developed over the last 40 years.

4. He will bring along bits from Formula 1 cars for everyone to look at.

5. A look at the future of Formula 1 (and why it’s good for the Planet) and some of the spin offs in Yacht racing/Hollywood films etc.

Please bring along a friend as a guest.

Finally the October Wine Festival approaches. Please keep pressing family and friends to attend. Your Rotary Club needs you to raise a tasting wine glass as all funds from the Festival will support our work in the community.

Cheltenham Wine Festival - 18 October 2025 Steve Wood

Peter Watson has sent to an email asking for volunteers to help at the wine festival on Saturday 18th October. Many of you have responded and many thanks if you are able to help. If you haven’t responded and can help please let Peter know a soon as possible.

We also need to sell more tickets, especially for Session 1 between 12 noon and 3.00 pm, although any sales would be most welcome. Don’t forget that family and friends can buy tickets at the reduced price of £20 if they apply the code Rotary.

Christmas Concert Gill Rouse

Tickets are now available for the Christmas Concert on Tuesday 16th December from Beth or Gill. On line ticketing will be available after the Wine Festival. The flier should be here by the 20th October meeting – please distribute wherever you go – put them in your local pub, restaurant, doctor’s surgery, hairdresser, library and so on.
