Meeting Notes for 7th July 2025

                                       THE ROTARY CLUB OF CHELTENHAM NORTH

                                      MEETING NOTES FOR MONDAY 7th JULY, 2025

WELCOME

President David Hearle welcomed everyone to the meeting. Twenty three members

attended. Our speaker for the evening was John Putley from Gloucestershire Archives.

President David paused for a moment of reflection as it was 20 years since the 7/7

London bombings. Speaker Host for the evening was David Rees.

BIG SPACE PROJECT

President David accompanied by Ann Bartholomew visited the Oncology Department

with regard to the Big Space Project. A decision will have to be made regarding our

financial contribution in due course.

SUE RYDER CYCLE RIDE

President David reported that several members had assisted with this charity event.

STANWAY HOUSE VISIT

President David reported that it had been suggested by Gill Rouse that a Club visit

could take place to Stanway House. A minimum of ten people was required and the

cost per person is £10. This could be followed by lunch at The Mount at Stanway.

MEALS ATTENDANCE

President David asked if two volunteers could come forward to organise the meal

selection process.

FRIENDS OF ROTARY

President David said that some confusion had arisen over the suggestion of Friends

of Rotary and he reported that Club Council had yet to come to a decision on the matter.

HORS DE COMBAT

Best wishes were sent to Vivien.

SUMMER GARDEN PARTY – IT’S ON!

Gill Rouse advised members that Sue and Chris Jenkins had kindly offered their garden for

the Summer Garden Party on 2nd August. This will go ahead as planned but at Sue and Chris’s.

FUTURE CLUB

President David will be attending a meeting of the Future Club on 15th July.

MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS

Treasurer Linda Pawley advised the meeting that several members still had to pay their

dues. If you haven’t already done so would you please give this matter your attention.

SPEAKER

Our Speaker John Putley was introduced by David Rees. The topic of John’s talk was

Tall Stories – Telling Tales. He gave a brief biography of fourteen poets and authors

associated with Gloucestershire, with photographs.

Gloucestershire Archives are located at the Heritage Hub, Clarence Row, Alvin Street, Gloucester GL1 3DW and can be visited Tuesday – Friday 9.00 a.m. – 4.30 p.m. www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/archives. Their earliest document dates from 1100s but

they also hold up-to-the-minute material created in a digital format.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

Our next meeting will be held on Monday 21st July at The Queens Hotel, when our

speaker will be Rotarian Sarah Hick whose topic is Cheltenham Scouts. Sarah is a

Scout Leader and is a member of Cheltenham Future.
