Messages from the President Nigel Gilhead

The Recent Poll for a Grant

Thank you all for replying so quickly, the result was:

20 members voted give them a grant, 10 voted not to give them a grant.

Of the 20 saying give a grant, £500 was the popular amount

So I have drafted a letter and certificate in anticipation of the Trustees approval, for £500.

Young Musician

Three members were at the D1100 final at Dean Close, unfortunately our instumentalist candidate Joseph James, playing the French Horn, was not selected to go onto the Cluster Final in Bristol, on 16th March. This honour went to Alec Banner playing a Marimba and a Vibraphone (Type of xylophone)

The instrument players were all excellent, unfortunately the singers chose some modern pieces, written for a singer with a microphone so the piano tended to override their voices.

Crocus Flowering

By the Keynsham Gate, in Sandford Park, purple crocuses that the pupils from St Johns Primary School planted with us, are in flower. I hope they will join us for another planting session later in the year.

RIP

The thanksgiving service for Roger Grimshaw is on Friday 7th March at 1pm at Tewkesbury Abbey followed by refreshments at Tewkesbury Park Hotel.

Many of you will remember Leander Vaughan who was a member of this club some years ago. She left rather suddenly but I understand she may not have been well at the time. She very sadly died this week but I have no other information.

Wine Festival

Get your tickets now if you wish to taste at this event. With just under six weeks to go we now have four sponsors and twenty exhibitors. Please make sure the date is in your diary – Saturday 5th April - because we will need as many of many of you as possible to help on the day. It is our biggest fundraiser so it’s all hands on deck. There are flyers available – please could you take some and distribute them wherever you can.

Christmas Concert

The committee has decided to rename Carol Concert the Christmas Concert as we believe the name describes the event more accurately. This year it will take place on Tuesday 16th December.
