Rotary Club of Cheltenham North
November 2024 Bulletin
Grants Evening President Nigel
The first round of our cooperative, Rotary in Cheltenham, Local Grants scheme, held a very upbeat awards event on 17th October.
The mayor was delighted to learn that the School House Cafe, in my opinion a very understated name for an extraordinary group of volunteers, was based on his old school. I am sure we will exploring further links with this, and indeed other groups, as they come into our awareness.
Recognising the awareness that has been generated about Rotary, the other Clubs echoed our desire to organise another round of the scheme, hoping to make it an annual feature. In the meantime, RCCN, could use the framework of the scheme and host its own version, with the awards planned for next spring.
In line with our strategy to help small and local groups, along with representatives of the Cheltenham, Bishops Cleeve, and Future, Rotary Clubs, we awarded grants to:
Cotswold Riding for the Disabled Association Rowanfield Junior School School House Cafe The Petersfield Project Cheltenham Silver Band
Stoke Orchard Football Club

Cheltenham Wine Festival 2025 Steve Wood
Members will be aware that we are staging two Cheltenham Wine Festivals in 2025; one on 5th April and the second on 18th October.
Tickets for the April event will go on sale on 1st December 2024. Any tickets purchased during December 2024 will be sold at the “early birds” price of £20 each. From 1st January 2025 tickets will cost £25 each. It is hoped that this will encourage early sales. This pricing will also apply to club members, and so if you wish to secure the reduced price you will need to purchase your tickets in December. Details of how you can buy tickets will be notified to club members in November.
Carol Concert Gill Rouse
Plans are well underway for the carol concert on Tuesday 17th December. What we need now is for all club members to try and sell the ten tickets they have been given by Beth. I know this is not easy but do ask your friends and family if they would join us this year.
I would also ask if you could take a few flyers and place them in your local supermarket, hairdresser, pub, newsagent – anywhere they might be seen by the local public. It makes such a difference. Thank you.
Message from President Nigel
In response to members' feedback, you will have read in the Council minutes that some small changes are being discussed to improve our Monday meetings.
We will talk to the Queens about rearranging the furniture just inside the door, so as you enter the room, it gives us more space to socialise.
To improve the sound; we will try a lapel microphone / speaker* system. Before committing the Club to any expenditure, Duncan has offered to set up his own equipment.
*initial thoughts are to put a compact speaker, like the one used recently, at the Golf Club, next to the projector.
Birthdays
I have received a few requests to put members’ Birthdays in the bulletin each month. If you are happy with this could you please send me your date of birth gill.rouse3@btinternet.com
