Rotary Club of Cheltenham North
February 2023 Bulletin
We are already one twelfth of the way through 2023 and are hopefully coping with the increase cost of daily life. The snowdrops are coming out and it will only be a few more weeks before the daffodils start showing their heads. Spare a thought for our Honorary Member, Sir Henry Elwes, who very sadly lost his wife very suddenly just before Christmas, having been together for sixty years. There will be a memorial service for Lady Carolyn in Gloucester Cathedral on Friday 10th March at 2.30 pm.
Christmas Lunch
We had a delightful Christmas Lunch on Thursday 19th January postponed from 15th December because of the snow and ice. The venue was Cotswold Hills Golf Club and the sun shone over the course as we tucked into roast turkey or alternatives. The meal was lovely and we even pulled crackers and enjoyed the cracker jokes. A bottle raffle was held in support of Shelter Box and raised £235.
The Pendyrus Male Voice Choir Gill Rouse
Tickets will be available on line very shortly for the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir concert at the new Leckhampton High School on Saturday 22nd April at 7pm. We need everyone’s help to sell tickets for this prestigious event and hope that every member will sell at least 6 tickets. By request of the choir there will also be an ‘afterglow’ get together either at Cotswold Hills Gollf Club, or an alternative, after the concert. Tickets are £15 each.
There will also be a raffle at this event so I will be very grateful to receive any unwanted Christmas gifts or suchlike over the next few weeks.
Social media is the way everyone now communicates and it is important that we have a presence on line to market our club and its events. There are courses available for anyone interested in having a go. The problem is that there needs to be a post every day if possible – it doesn’t have to be long but the posts need to be interesting and frequent to attract followers. It can done on your phone and once the system was up and running would take someone about twenty minutes every day. Some posts can be set to go out in advance but there is often a small fee for that service. We need someone who would be as dedicated doing this as our Webmaster, Clive O’Gorman, is with our website. Does any club member know of anyone who might be prepared to do this for us?
