The Witney Rotary Club has provided the funds to allow
the West Oxfordshire Boxing and
Fitness Club to buy a defibrillator for use in their gym. Speaking for the
Boxing Club, Sharon
Turner said: “Since all coaches and volunteers completed their First Aid
Training and the fact
that we are getting busier by the day, we realised the importance of having a
defibrillator on
the premises.
“We were visited by Ashley Farmer, from Rotary, who understood the passion and
importance of the work that we do and the wide range of people that we support
in our
Community.
“We are very grateful for the guidance and generous financial support from The
Witney
Rotary Club enabling us to purchase the machine and help keep all our members
as safe as
possible.”
The West Oxon Boxing and Fitness Club caters for everyone, is fully inclusive
and open to
anyone from the age of 7 upwards. The art of boxing is used as a platform to
help improve
body strength, increase fitness, weight loss and learning to box. It encourages
social
inclusion, increases confidence levels, and decreases stress.
Keith Crawford, President of Witney Rotary, said: ”It is wonderful to see so
many people
benefiting from the dedication of Sharon and her colleagues, and we are pleased
to be able
to support them with this potentially life-saving defibrillator.”
