Rain umbrellas and a cuppa for World Polio Day

Rain, umbrellas and a well-earned cuppa! Witney Rotary braved the weather to mark World Polio Day and support the worldwide campaign to eradicate polio.

Witney Rotary marked World Polio Day on Saturday 24 October outside the Corn Exchange, helping to raise awareness of the worldwide effort to eradicate polio.

With our End Polio Now campaign board on display, we shared the importance of protecting children through vaccination. A welcome stop in the Corn Exchange café brought good company and a little shelter from the weather.

Our warm thanks go to Witney Town Council for allowing us to display our campaign board outside the Corn Exchange.

Purple is associated with the campaign because a child’s finger may be marked with purple dye after polio vaccination. The accompanying evening illustration imagines the Corn Exchange in purple; the lighting has been added digitally.

Since 1988, polio cases worldwide have fallen by 99.9%. But polio has not been eradicated, and vaccination must continue to protect children everywhere. Rotary aims to raise US$50 million each year for polio eradication, with donations matched two to one by the Gates Foundation.

Together, we can end polio. Find out more and support the campaign at www.endpolio.org.
