Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club Hosts Successful Annual Quiz Night

On Saturday evening, 17th October 2026, Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club welcomed a sell-out audience of 115 guests to St Francis Church Hall for its annual Quiz Night. The event brought together members of the local community, neighbouring Rotary clubs, and various civic organisations for an evening of friendly competition and fundraising.

The quiz was devised and set by Rotarians John and Coral Walton, testing participants on a diverse range of topics spanning history, popular culture, and general knowledge—from the Bayeux Tapestry and significant events of 1927 to modern media like Pokémon.

Community Support and Local Collaboration

Guests enjoyed a traditional supper of fish and chips supplied by local shop Hoy Che at Shoplands. Sincere thanks are extended to Choon for delivering the meals piping hot directly to the venue. The club also wishes to express its gratitude to the Rotarians and friends who donated an array of generous prizes for the evening's grand raffle.

During the evening, Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club presented a cheque for £600 to All Aboarders, one of the local causes supported by the club. This contribution will assist in funding a commemorative bronze statue of Wellington boots at Welwyn Garden City Railway Station, marking the centenary of the station's opening.

Competition Results

The quiz featured strong competition across a wide range of teams, including representatives from local Scout groups, All Aboarders, Brookmans Park Rotary Club Hertswood Rotary Club , the Town Council, and a local book club.

The top places were awarded as follows:

  • First Place: Hertswood Rotary Club, attending the event for the first time, each taking home a celebratory bottle of Prosecco.

  • Second Place: The Potters, representing Potters Bar.

  • Third Place: "4 Fish & 2 Chicken", a local family entry.

Fundraising Impact

Through ticket sales, donations, and raffle proceeds, the event raised a total of £1,400. These funds will directly support the club’s ongoing charitable initiatives and community projects throughout the coming year.

Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club extends its heartfelt thanks to all who attended, volunteered, and contributed to making the evening a resounding success.
