The Rotary Children’s Fun Day at Lakeside School, organised by WGC, Hatfield, Potters Bar, and Brookmans Park Rotary Clubs, has been cancelled today due to rain. The event and its mobile petting zoo will reschedule for early September.

Weather Forces Postponement of Annual Rotary Children’s Fun Day at Lakeside School

The event, which was set to host 115 students and a mobile petting zoo, is being rescheduled for early September.

WELWYN GARDEN CITY — It is with great regret that the Rotary Clubs of Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Potters Bar, and Brookmans Park have announced the cancellation of today’s highly anticipated Children’s Fun Day due to an adverse weather forecast.

The collaborative annual event was scheduled to take place today at Lakeside School, bringing together 115 students for a unique day of interactive learning and outdoor activities.

Safety First for Students and Animals

The highlight of this year’s Fun Day was to be a specially adapted mobile petting zoo. The attraction was designed to give the children a hands-on opportunity to experience, handle, and learn about a variety of animals in a safe, familiar environment.

However, with heavy rain and poor conditions forecast, organisers made the difficult decision this morning to call off the event to ensure the comfort and well-being of both the attendees and the animals.

A spokesperson for the Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club commented:

"We are deeply disappointed to have to cancel today's activities. A huge amount of planning goes into this day, and we were so excited to welcome the pupils. However, the safety and happiness of the children, alongside the welfare of the animals, must always come first."

New Date Set for September

While today’s damp weather has put a temporary stop to the fun, the Rotary Clubs have reassured the community that the event is not being cancelled permanently.

Plans are already underway to reschedule the entire Fun Day for early September, perfectly timed to welcome the students back for the start of the new academic year.

The organisers would like to extend their gratitude to Lakeside School, the vendors, and the local community for their understanding and flexible support. Further updates regarding the exact rescheduled date will be shared with parents and school staff as soon as they are finalised.
