The Watford Rotary Club hosted an International
Evening on 20th October. West Herts College Student Restaurant provided the
venue and the students put on a special menu with an African flavour for the
occasion. All proceeds were for two charities, Mary’s
Meals and the Rotary Foundation. Mary’s Meals is a
wonderful organisation that provides school meals for children in a number of
third world countries. The meals attract the children to the classroom and give
them the energy and the opportunity to learn.
It was a very successful evening. We raised
over £900 for Mary’s Meals and received a separate donation of £2000
inspired by the event. It was recently announced that from now until 28th December
all fundraising for Mary’s Meals will be matched by the UK Government via UK Aid. So as a
result Mary’s Meals will receive nearly £6000!
We also raised over £200 for the Rotary Foundation.
Hugh Laurie from Mary’s
Meals was present and spoke about how the charity had grown from small
beginnings and now provides more than a million children with a meal every day
at school.
Rotary Club President Rabi Martins said ‘We are delighted with the support we have received for this event
and really pleased to be able to help such a worthwhile charity’
