Thames Walk

With the last 1% of the battle left to fight, the Thames Walk raised £9k for End Polio Now

On 22nd May, Reading Abbey organised its third sponsored walk along the Thames Path. This year, Reading Abbey walking teams were joined by the team from the Rotary Club of Reading Matins.

Polio is so close to being eliminated world wide, and our theme was to Help Bridge the Gap, by walking from Thames Bridges as far away as Wallingford and Marlow along the Thames Path to Caversham Bridge. Here the Crowne Plaza hotel, Reading Abbey’s home base, provided an excellent BBQ for the weary walkers as they finished.

Reading Abbey prides itself on being a very sociable club, and hosting a BBQ for our fellow Rotarians, plus their friends and family, proved to be a great success. And we also had fund raising success. Boosted by the 2 for 1 pledge by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the event ensured that £9k will be contributed towards the End Polio Campaign.

Well done to all who took part!
