Visit to Oxburgh Hall

Message from Tony Williams.

I have been asked to organise a group visit to Oxburgh Hall as the club’s meeting on the 8th April and must provide details to the National Trust four weeks beforehand. Full details of the property are available on the National Trust website including the route to get there. Ample free parking is available close to the house and gardens.
The Hall itself is open from 10.30am to 3.00pm and the tea room, shop and bookshop from 10.00 until 4.00. Adult admission costs £13.30 for non-members of the National Trust. Full details of accessibility are available on the website.

As many of you will know, many of the the rooms in National Trust properties are manned by well-trained volunteer guides who are keen to explain details about the individual rooms and much else about history of the estate and the Bedingfeld family, some of whom still live in a private part of the Hall. We are planning to arrange for an external guided tour looking at the exterior of the house, its architecture and history over the past five hundred years. The maximum number for each tour is twenty but if more places are required, I am hopeful that we could ask for more tours. The cost of each tour is £65.
I would propose that we arrange our own transport to the Hall car park, pay our individual entrance fees and enter the gardens around the Hall. I will arrange for the first tour at around 11.00 and this should last about an hour. You can then arrange your own exploration of the the interior of the Hall, the gardens, the chapel and the parkland at your own convenience. Light lunches, including soup, jacket potatoes, baps and an array of cakes with hot and cold drinks are available in the tea rooms.  Alternatively, those wishing to avail themselves of a more substantial meal could eat in the Bedingfel Arms nearby.
When booking a group visit I am required to give an indication of numbers twenty eight days beforehand, so if you and your spouse or significant other would like to join the club on this visit, could you please let me know as soon as possible so that I can progress our arrangements.
