Swimarathon

Pictures and details of our first Swimarathon held at the Alive Leisure Pool on 9 February.

Our first Swimarathon was a fantastic success, raising over £9000 for local charities and still counting as of 2nd March.

28 Teams with up to 6 swimmers in each team swam in relay for 55 minutes.  Each team member raised sponsorship from friends and relatives to go towards the fund to be donated to local charities.

Half of the funds raised will go to the West Norfolk Carers tos support their work with young carers, and the rest to be divided between West Norfolk Mind, The Lavender Hill Mob, The St Faiths Bungalow Project and Little Discoverers.  Details of Charities

The event was not a competition as swimmers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part.  However, some of the performances were outstanding with the Ugly Ducklings (including Jonathan Holmes) swimming the most lengths, 179, or one every 18 seconds.  Full list of team results

Congratulations are due to Jonathan Holmes and his team for the effective organisation of this new event.  We were helped enormously by the Rotary Club of Grantham who have been running a similar event for 30 years now.

Particular thanks to our sponsors. 21 local businesses helped make the event possible.  Full list of sponsors suppliers and donors

Provisional date for next years event which we hope will be bigger and better 8 February 2020.
