Another fantastic final for RoKart 2023
Rotary Nene Valley has organised RoKart for 7 years. This year’s final on April 4th produced some incredible performances and another £10,000 for local charities.
The winners from the 10 heats competed in The Final in a 2-hour endurance race that was fast, competitive and very well driven. The winning team, the very experienced David Smith Associates completed a remarkable 300 laps, the highest number since the event’s inception in 2016. DSA had taken part in every final since 2016 and this was their first time as overall winner and “Fastest Company in Northamptonshire”. They were only 1 lap ahead of newcomers Forti Tiling who completed 299 laps. Third place and the trophy for “fastest group of friends” donated by Michael Jones the Jewellers went to newcomers G P Karting
All 9 teams taking part achieved their personal best performances with all exceeding 285 laps. Chloe Douce, The Teamwork’s circuit manager, believed it was probably the highest quality race they had overseen and was testament to the quality and ability of the 45 drivers taking part.
The trophies were presented by Tony Billson, president of Rotary Nene Valley who organise the event to raise money for local charities and community projects. This year the nominated charities were the Lewis Foundation, Eve -the women’s refuge in Northampton and Cynthia Spencer. This year the event raised £10,000 and, since 2016, the Nene Valley Rotary Club has been able to donate almost £70,000 from RoKart to the local charities and community projects.
Rotarian Neil Hufton explained “The real fun and excitement in the event comes from the diversity in the teams that enter. Anyone from novice to regular Go Karters can enter the heats although clearly the more competent race it out in the Final. We have had fantastic support from across the community with teams from the legal firms, Northampton General Hospital, local villages, family businesses and, of course, the larger firms who might enter several teams. We have had a Northampton Law Society night, and a Lewis Foundation supporter night. We have had some of the best heats, a great final and raised again another £10,000. It is great that every team tonight has achieved a personal best and can celebrate a great night”.
The Final was summarised by Joe Butter of DSA “we are delighted to have won and, for the first time in the track’s history, to achieve 300 laps in 2 hours but it was only possible by the quality of all the drivers throughout the race. The real winners tonight though are the charities”.
