The White Swan in Bluntisham's Team looking forward to starting this year's Inter-Pub Quiz and a very enjoyable Evening ahead
Much fun was had on Thursday evening, March 26th, when 30 pubs and clubs across Huntingdonshire competed simultaneously in The Rotary Club of St Ives Charity Quiz. Around 500 quizzers took part, raising around £2,800 for charity, with over half of that being donated to the charities of the top teams.

The winning group were from Buckden Village Club, with an impressive score of 188 out of 195points! They chose the Macmillan Woodlands Cancer Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital to receive their £300 prize, and will also receive 12 bottles of wine, courtesy of sponsors Peter Lane estate agents.
In second place with 187 points, and also with the largest team on the night (48 quizzers!) were The Three Horseshoes pub at Wistow. As quiz rules dictate that any team can only win one prize, they receive a £200 donation for The Malcolm Whales Foundation, and 6 bottles of wine for the team. This means that the Prince of Wales pub in Hilton, with the next largest team (34 members), was awarded the £200 ‘largest team’ prize, nominating Jimmy’s Cambridge to receive the donation. They scored 179 points.
The remaining ‘top ten’ teams, all winning cash prizes for their chosen charities, were as follows; in third place The Oliver Cromwell in St Ives (183pts), donating £120 to MAGPAS, the air ambulance service. In 4th place Lakeside Lodge Golf Club in Pidley (182pts) chose The Royal Papworth Hospital Charity to receive £110. Over Day Care Centre will get £100 courtesy of The Admiral in Over (180pts), and the St Ives Dementia Friendly Community Group receive £90 from the team at Floods Tavern in St Ives (178pts). £80 goes to Old Weston Village Hall, thanks to the team at The Swan in Old Weston (177pts), and £70 to The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2026 from The Jolly Sailor in Ramsey (176pts). Lupus UK will receive £60 from The Mad Cat in Pidley, and £50 each goes to MAGPAS, Arthur Rank Hospice and the British Legion Poppy Appeal Somersham Branch as there were three teams tied in tenth place; Parkfield Sports Club in Wimblington, The White Swan in Bluntisham and the Centurion Social Club in Somersham.
Scoring between 156 and 170 points and in 13th to 20th place were The Green Man at Leighton Bromswold, The Royal Oak at Hail Weston, The Bell Inn at Great Paxton, The Anchor Inn at Little Paxton, The Crown Inn at Earith, The White Swan in Conington, The Axe and Compass in Hemingford Abbots, and newcomers the St Ives Golf Club.
Also competing were The Three Horseshoes in Houghton, The Vine in Buckden, The Royal Oak at Warboys, The George in Ramsey Forty Foot, The Three Horseshoes in Graveley, The Manor Inn at Alconbury, The Crystal Ship in Earith, The Cock at Hemingford Grey, and The Three Compasses in Upper Dean.
All remaining funds go into The Rotary Club of St Ives Trust Fund, which is the charity account we use to make donations totalling between £20,000 and £30,000 every year. Rotary clubs worldwide focus on supporting their local communities, educating young people, supporting healthcare, caring for our environment and promoting peace. If anyone is interested to know more, please come along to meet us at the St Ives Farmers Market on Saturday April 4th, or email secretary@stivesrotarycambs.org.uk
A huge thank you must go out to all the Rotarians and other volunteers who act as quizmasters and who operate the results lines at ‘Quiz Control’, as well as to all the landlords, landladies and club managers who drum up support in their clubs and pubs, and the quizzers who make this event the success it is. Events like these can’t happen without you!
