Holt Island Visit & Tea Party

.

On Wednesday 3rd September at 2pm, the Rotary Club of St Ives held its annual Holt Island Tea Party meeting.

35 guests and their carers from Field Lodge, Acorn Trust and St Ives Dementia Club attended the 13th annual meeting.

Unfortunately, the weather was somewhat inclement. Nevertheless, 18 brave souls visited Holt Island and were accompanied by the Wardens (plus 5 rather damp Rotarians) for a relaxing stroll around its’ perimeter. The guests then made their way to the Methodist Church in St Ives where they were joined by other guests for an afternoon tea and entertainment. They were greeted and made welcome by the Rotarians who had volunteered their services for the occasion

Sally undertook the management of the kitchen which ran, as, always very smoothly, with the many tasks being undertaken efficiently and with good humour. The tables were dressed with white tablecloths and flowers, and looked very welcoming. There was an abundance of cakes, scones and traybakes with a never ending supply of tea, served in teapots, and coffee.

An afternoon’s entertainment was laid on and everyone enjoyed singing and dancing up until 4pm when, sadly, the event came to an end. We were especially privileged to be joined on this occasion by fabulous singer, Jo Dodds who sang “Songs from the Shows”.

We would like to conclude by stating that days like this show Rotarians at their very best, working in the community, with fellow volunteer organisations, providing help and support to those less able to enjoy the delights our town offers. We really would like to thank all those who volunteered to make this such a successful day.

Our grateful thanks also go to the Methodist Church for allowing us to use their superb facilities.
