Primary Schools Quiz - February 2024

And the winners are ..... Houghton Primary School!

The Rotary Club of St Ives held its eighth Primary Schools’ Quiz on Thursday 29 February.

Twelve Primary schools entered the competition and a total of some 210 pupils aged 10 and 11 took part.

After a very closely fought contest, Houghton Primary School just snatched first place scoring 147 points out of a possible 150 to secure the Rotary Cup and a prize of £75.

In joint second place were Fenstanton and Hilton Primary School, and Hemingford Grey Primary School each with 146 points and winning prizes of £50 each.  Every student taking part received a certificate.

The quiz followed broadly the same format as the very popular Rotary Charity Pub Quiz with the twelve teams based in their own schools, being asked the same questions at the same time by visiting Rotarian quizzers.  As always this made for a great fun evening, especially as each team could see the progress being made by the other schools.

Houghton Primary School will be presented with the St Ives Rotary Winners Trophy at a future Assembly and will hold onto the cup until the next competition.

All the students taking part enthusiastically tackled the wide-ranging questions and we have had tremendous feedback from everyone, including parents and teachers.  The overall standard this year was excellent, which reflects really well on the students and the teachers.

The quiz this year was organised by Rotarian Julian Thomas who was delighted with the way everything went and wished to thank the staff and pupils for their time.
